Wednesday, March 03, 2010

The Bahamas Chamber of Commerce, Small and Medium Sized Enterprise (SMESU) Unit is pleased to inform Bahamian businesses that Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export) will launch the 3rd Call for Proposals under the Direct Grant Assistance Scheme on March 8, 2010. This call for proposals relates to both the Regular Procedures and Accelerated Procedures grants. The deadline for submitting applications for the Regular Procedure is April 9, 2010, whereas the deadline for Accelerated Procedures applications is May 28, 2010. Grants under the regular procedures must fall within a minimum of euro 5000 and a maximum of euro 30,000. The accelerated grant programme has a minimum of euro 1,000 and a maximum of euro 5,000.

The Scheme follows on the national Grant Writing training course facilitated by the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce, The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and Caribbean Export in October 2009, and aims at providing assistance to companies to address the constraints they encounter as they enhance their capacity, develop new products or access regional and extra-regional markets.

All businesses in the region that have the potential to export their products or increase their exports may benefit from the Scheme. However, priority will be given to companies involved in new sectors such as Creative Industries, Health & Wellness, Information & Communication Technology (ICT) and Professional Services, as well as, those undertaking projects or activities that are innovative (i.e. new, products, Intellectual Property Rights, strategic alliances, etc).

Eligible Projects Include

  • Research, development and innovation
  • Advisory services
  • Product and service development
  • Marketing services and activities (trade fairs participation, trade mission, in-market activities, etc)
  • Quality and environmental systems

  • Training programmes
  • Implementation of IT solutions (website, e-commerce, multimedia, etc)
  • Market research and testing
