News Report: "Chamber to host National Conclave on Oct. 4"

Published by Youri Kemp, Nassau Guardian, September 19th, 2024

The Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employers’ Confederation (BCCEC) will be hosting its National Conclave on October 4, under the theme “Keys to Strengthening our Economy”.

Dr. Leo Rolle, executive director of the BCCEC, said in a release on the event: “This conclave is very important. The Chamber has multiple arms and various spheres in The Bahamas, there is a lack of cohesion, and what we want to see is comradery, to see the business sector build.

“While the different chambers are on other islands and are dispersed, we all share similar challenges. This is a moment for us to come up with a strategic vision for all of us, so we can find ways to better help the business community.”

The BCCEC release further noted: “Under the patronage of Royal Caribbean, Super Value, Summit Insurance, Higgs & Johnson, Fidelity and Caribbean Bottling Company, the BCCEC is pleased to announce the National Conclave of Chambers of Commerce in The Bahamas, slated for Friday, October 4th, from 8:00 am. – 1:00 pm (non-members), or 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (members). Attendees will enjoy breakfast, lunch (BCCEC members) and an opportunity to network, collaborate and have their concerns addressed by the decision-makers across multiple industries and organizations. This jam-packed day of panels, speakers and strategists is meant to strengthen the business landscape throughout our archipelagic nation, promoting a stronger, more unified business community.

The release continued: “To kick off the conclave, BCCEC is pleased to have the keynote address delivered by Philip Edward Davis, prime minister and minister of finance. During the morning session (open to the public), each family island chamber will provide a comprehensive report that outlines their initiatives, successes, challenges, future plans and calls to action for support. This will be followed by a dynamic panel of industry leaders that will provide the strategies to strengthen our economy, including Chinese Ambassador to the Bahamas Yan Jiarong; IDB Country Representative to The Bahamas Shirley Gayle; US Embassy Representative Ericka Lewis; Director of Trade & Industry Brickell Pinder; Economist with RF Bank & Trust David Slatter; and BCCEC Chairman Timothy Ingraham.”

“Given the challenges that impede the ease of doing business, we reached out to all Chambers to have them select the people they wish to hear from during the conclave, and their responses served as the impetus for our selection of panelists.

“The afternoon session (exclusively for Chamber members) will boast four panel discussions geared toward, ‘Enhancing Banking Access for Businesses’, ‘Ease of Doing Business in The Bahamas’, Empowering the Family Islands for National Growth’ and ‘Sustainable Tourism as a Pillar for Economic Growth’. Panelists include a cadre of seasoned business professionals, including BCCEC and family island Chamber representatives.”
