The Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employers’ Confederation (BCCEC) has attended “numerous” courtesy calls, follow-up discussions and strategy meetings on the heels of the Afreximbank 31st Annual Meetings and the third AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum, held at Baha Mar on June 12 – 15, the BCCEC’s Chief Executive Officer Dr. Leo Rolle told Guardian Business yesterday.
Rolle said the true benefits of the BCCEC’s efforts while at the conference will remain to be seen in the coming months.
Rolle himself was part of a panel discussion during the conference, discussing factoring and receivables financing and how it can benefit the local business community.
He explained that one recent, important meeting stemming from the conference was a meeting with International Labor Organization Regional Representative Dennis Zulu, who gave updates on Sustainable Development Goals.
“Our advocacy directly impacts national policies and promotes good governance that drives growth and prosperity in our business environment,” said Rolle.
“It is on the basis of this mandate, that we not only attended but secured a booth at the recent Afreximbank conference held at Baha Mar June 12th – 15th.
“We were pleased with the turnout and participation from not only officials and stakeholders, but businesspersons, investors and the general public alike, who seemed enthusiastic about the immersion of culture and exposure.
“The three days of dynamic speakers, collaboration and networking created an environment conducive for mutually beneficial propositions and deals that transcend the confines of our geographical separation.”
Rolle said the BCCEC will continue to forge such partnerships in order to strengthen the country’s business landscape.
He said whether realized or nurtured, the partnerships forged during the Afreximbank meetings will improve the country’s pursuit of economic prowess and capacity building.
The government and Afreximbank signed an agreement to develop a $50 million Afro-Caribbean marketplace on Grand Bahama that will be a retail center as well as a logistics hub for authentic Caribbean and African goods.
The facility will be built at the old International Bazaar and Royal Oasis site and 55 African countries will be represented, as well as 20 Caribbean countries, with their own pavilions.
The Bahamas will have all 16 islands individually represented in the marketplace.
